Mid Level Vehicle Engineer – UK

Job Description

The Vehicle Engineering team at HP Tuners Europe is looking for a Mid-level Software Engineer with expert reverse engineering capabilities. The Individual will be responsible for maintaining the existing products and developing new products in accordance with the strategic roadmap. The role involves being hands-on as you continue to expand your potential and push the boundaries of the “art of decoding binary files”.

The new employee will be based in our offices in Letchworth, Herts, UK; the primary role will be to maintain existing and develop new product.

HP Tuners is a market leading automotive aftermarket ECM/TCM tuning tool provider. Based in Chicago USA, HP Tuners started in 2003 and now employs >100 people. HP Tuners designs, manufactures, and develops hardware and software solutions in house.

HP Tuners Europe Ltd was incorporated in early 2019; we are now recruiting additional members to join our exceptional team of professionals ensuring that we deliver growth in line with the company objectives. The local development of European specific product is critical to business success.

The Role:

Reporting to the Senior European Vehicle Engineer, you will work in collaboration to maintain existing products and develop new products as specified in the strategic product roadmap:

  • • Reverse Engineer automotive binary files
    • Mapping Vehicle tuning parameters
    • Hands-on with Off-the-shelf tools, Data Analytics
    • Provide technical inputs in project kick-off, reviews, and meetings
    • Identify and implement solutions to boost the efficiency by means of automation
    • Ability to work autonomously and guides less experienced engineers in day-to-day work
    • Management of all necessary documentation in line with engineering protocol
    • Ability to travel to our head office in USA minimum once a yeard engineers in day-to-day work

 The individual – preferred knowledge and skills:

  • • 4 years of experience in SW reverse engineering/Embedded domain.
    • Strong understanding of the Assembly language – x86 / PPC/ Tricore
    • Hands-on experience with IDA Pro or Ghidra
    • Solid programming skills in C/C++, C# and Python
    • Good understanding of Visual studios, TFS
    • Good understanding of CAN Bus and Diagnostics protocol – UDS /KWP2000
    • Familiar with Automotive programming tools
    • Knowledge of advances within Automotive security
    • Ability to demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Passionate with good communication skills
    • Personable and approachable attitude
    • Resilience and tenacity required

Desired Skillset:
• Technical hands-on knowledge and experience of the automotive ECM/TCM aftermarket tuning sector would be an advantage
• Awareness of Automotive standards ISO26262 and AUTOSAR Architecture will be plus
• Hands-on experience in Embedded domain will be preferred

Entry Level Vehicle Engineers – UK

Full-time opportunities exist to support HP Tuners Europe growth in the European market. The role will be significant in supporting and developing European specific product for sales within Continental Europe.

  • Reverse engineering various automotive binary files
  • Mapping vehicle tuning parameters
  • Using automotive programming tools and software
  • Management of all necessary documentation in line with engineering protocol
  • Identify and assist with the documentation of European regulatory requirements
  • Identify and document any local support and engineering development requirements
  • Full training to be provided in on commencement
  • Ability to travel to USA minimum once a year for annual Company meeting

 The individual – preferred knowledge and skills:

  • Fluent English, written and verbal – additional languages an advantage
  • Ability to work autonomously on projects
  • Knowledge of automotive engine and transmission operations
  • Knowledge of Automotive programming tools and Software
  • Automotive communications protocols
  • Familiar with Assembly languages – on any platform (e.g., x86, PPC, Tri-core)
  • Familiar with Programming languages – C, C++, Python, C# (Good to have)
  • Familiar with – IDA Pro / Ghidra / radare2 Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server and advantage
    • “Reverse Engineering code using a disassembler”
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Current demonstrable technical hands-on knowledge and experience of the automotive ECM/TCM aftermarket tuning sector would also be an advantage
  • Passionate with good communication skills
  • Personable and approachable attitude
  • Competency in Microsoft products; word, excel, outlook, ppt
  • Organizational skills – management of own time and priorities
  • Resilience and tenacity required
