VCM Controls

Understanding the colors

	MIL is commanded to ON by the user.
	MIL is commanded to OFF by the user.
	MIL has no direct command from the user.

How to Use

To toggle the command, simply click the buttons. To disable an active command, click the active colored button. Please read descriptions of each command below for any further requirements.

Warning

Misuse of VCM Controls can cause vehicle damage. These controls are LIVE and make changes instantaneously! Be sure to use them carefully.

Types of VCM Controls

Single Shot: This type of command is a one click deal. An example of this command is the Reset Fuel Trims.
On/Off: On/Off commands have 3 modes. On, Off and no control. When you command a function to off, the Off button will remain lit. Click the off button once again to release control of the command. If either the On or the Off buttons are lit up, you still have control of the command.
Up/Down Value: Up/Down values have 2 sets of arrows next to the value. The smaller set will change the value in small increments, the larger set will change the value in larger increments. When the control is commanded to on, every click of the arrow sends a command to the vehicle. Try to avoid extremely fast clicking of the arrows. A conservative rate of change speed will help the software and vehicle stay connected when controlling values.

General VCM Controls

MIL: Command the MIL Lamp (SES Light).
Shift Light: Command the Shift Lamp.
AC Clutch: Command the AC Clutch.
Purge Solenoid: Command the EVAP Purge Solenoid.
Vent Solenoid: Command the EVAP Vent Solenoid.
Air Pump: Command the A.I.R. Pump.
Air Solenoid: Command the A.I.R. Solenoid.
Cruise Inhibit: Command the cruise control inhibit feature.
Generator L-Term: Command the Generator/Alternator L-Term
EGR PWM: Command the EGR Position.
Boost Control PWM: Command the Boost Control solenoid.
Intercooler Pump: Command the Intercooler Pump.
PTO Engage: Command the Power Take Off.
Exhaust Brake: Command Exhaust Brake.
Intake Air Heater: Command Intake Air Heater.
Throttle Cleaned Reset: Reset throttle body coking compensation values after cleaning. Typically for GenIV engines (E38, E67 etc.) the following conditions must be met: Ignition On, engine not running, vehicle not moving.

Transmission VCM Controls

TCC Solenoid: Command the Torque Converter Clutch enable solenoid.
TCC PWM On/Off: Command the Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation for Lock and Unlock only.
TCC PWM Level: Vary the Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation level.
Force Motor (mA): Command the Force Motor (Pressure Control Solenoid) current.
Trans Adapt: Trigger reset or preset of the adaptive pressure cells.
Trans Fast Adapt: Trigger reset of the adaptive pressure cells.
Trans Fast Learn: Trigger the transmission fast learn procedure. Before starting the procedure, you must log the PID "Fast Learn Status" in the scanner to be informed of various required operator actions and steps in the process. You have 2 seconds to comply with any instructions such as Selecting D or R, otherwise the test will be aborted. The engine must be running at idle, transmission temperature 70 - 95 DegC, vehicle not moving and brake pedal must be applied during the entire test. Please note during this test the engine speed will increase and decrease automatically and various clutch noises may be heard from the transmission.
A4 Gear Force: Command an individual gear. In some cases the calibration must be changed in VCM Editor to enable selection of some gears at higher RPM and vehicle speeds (eg. so it will hold a gear on the dyno). This is typically done in the Transmission Diagnostics, Cmd Gear Control Limits section of VCM Editor.
1-2 Shift Solenoid: Command the 1-2 Shift Solenoid.
2-3 Shift Solenoid: Command the 2-3 Shift Solenoid.
CAGS (M6) or 3-2 Solenoid (A4): Command CAGS on M6 vehicles or the 3-2 Shift Solenoid for A4 vehicles.
Reverse Lockout: Command reverse lockout.
CAGS: Command the CAGS (skip shift) solenoid
HS Driver 1: Command the High Side Solenoid 1
HS Driver 2: Command the High Side Solenoid 2
Clutch 1 Solenoid: Command the Clutch Solenoid 1
Clutch 2 Solenoid: Command the Clutch Solenoid 2
Clutch 3 Solenoid: Command the Clutch Solenoid 3
Clutch 4 Solenoid: Command the Clutch Solenoid 4
Trans Clean: Begin the transmission cleaning procedure. Before starting the procedure, you must log the PID "Cleaning Status" in the scanner to be informed of the current process status. Enable conditions: Engine running at idle, vehicle not moving, transmission selector in Park, transmission temperature 70 - 110 DegC. Please note during this test the engine speed will increase and decrease automatically and various clutch noises may he heard from the transmission.
Pedal Pos Relearn: Relearn the fully depressed clutch position. Enable conditions: Ignition On, Engine not running, vehicle not moving and no clutch position sensor faults.

Fan VCM Controls

Fan Low: Command the low speed fan operation..
Fan High: Command the high speed fan operation.
Fan 3: Command the Fan 3 operation.
Fan Speed: Command the Fan Speed.

Fuel & Spark VCM Controls

Closed Loop: Command closed loop fuel operation.
Fuel Trim Learn: Command fuel trim learn.
Reset Fuel Trims: Zero all short term and long term fuel trims. This will reset all learned fuel modification values.
Fuel Pump: Command the fuel pump.
Fuel Pump - Hi: Command the fuel pump hi mode of operation.
Secondary Fuel Pump: Command the secondary Fuel Pump relay (if fitted).
Fuel Pump PWM Level: Command the Fuel Pump PWM duty cycle (if variable speed fuel pump fitted).
Spark Control - Absolute: Command the absolute spark value.
Spark Control - Plus: Command the amount of degrees to be added to the current calculated spark value.
Spark Control - Minus: Command the amount of degrees to be subtracted from the current calculated spark value.
Spark Idle Control: Disable the idle spark correction calculations.
AFR Control: Command the desired Air Fuel Ratio.
Wait to Start: Command the Wait to Start lamp on the cluster
Glow Plug: Command the Glow Plug.

Special VCM Controls

Cylinder Balance: The cylinder balance test calculates % of efficiency using current RPM. RPM is gauged with all injectors running normally. Injectors are then cut 1 cylinder at a time and the new RPM is compared to the pre-test RPM to determine % of efficiency. To use this test the main scanner must be stopped. You should also control the IAC steps as well for consistency if the vehicle supports it.
Idle (IAC) Control RPM: Force a desired idle RPM. Typically for GenIV engines (E38, E67 etc.) the following conditions must be met: Auto Trans In Park, VSS < 5kph and no VSS faults.
Idle (IAC) Control Steps: Force the IAC motor to this position.
Idle (IAC) Control TPS: Force the IAC or Electronic Throttle motor to this position. In some vehicles this control can only be used when the engine is not running. Typically for GenIV engines (E38, E67 etc.) the following conditions must be met: VSS < 7kph and no VSS faults, RPM < 200, MAP > 60kPa, Vac < 5 kPa, engine not running.
CASE Learn: To use the CASE learn function please follow these steps:
1. Ensure the engine is at normal operating temperature (ECT > ~65C).
2. Put the vehicle into park (auto) or neutral (manual).
3. Turn off all accessories and A/C.
4. Turn the vehicle off.
5. Apply the parking brake.
6. Press the brake pedal. Keep the brake pedal depressed during the entire procedure. REQUIRED for successful test completion
7. Start the vehicle and let it idle.
8. Press Begin.
9. Gradually rev the vehicle to fuel cutoff (around 4000-5000 RPM's) over a period of about 4 seconds. When fuel cuts out, immediately release the throttle.
10. Allow the engine to come back to an idle.
11. Turn the ignition off for at least 15 seconds. This step is required for the VCM to store the newly learned configuration.
