Using Real Time Tuning (RTT™)

At this point, we assume you already have the VCM Enhancement with RTT™ capabilities already in your vehicle.


Step 1. Selecting the RTT™ Mode

Due to the limited amount of space in the VCM's RAM, we can only load a few tables at once.
We get around this obstacle by giving you modes of operation to chose from.

Each mode will load different tables into RAM.
Each mode is designed to allow you to accomplish one major task, like idle or VE tuning.
The mode toggle switch is located in VCM Editor->Engine->General.

Here is an example list of modes:



Select the mode of operation you would like to use and perform a write calibration only.

Note: If you do not select a mode other than Disabled, the RTT icon in step 2 will not be displayed in your scanner.


Step 2. Connecting with VCM Scanner

Connect to the vehicle using VCM Scanner.
After you connect VCM Scanner will detect a VCM with a VCM Enhancement that supports RTT™ and will display the following icon in the tool bar:



Click this icon to bring up the Real Time Tuning window.


Step 3. Understanding the Real Time Tuning Toolbar

The toolbar is designed to give you similar functionality to the table display in VCM Editor.
What differs in this toolbar is the numbers 1 through 8, and the two sets of play and stop buttons.

These numbers represent each table that is available for real time tuning in the current mode.
By default, all these tables will use what is located on the flash chip until you enable them by using the play buttons.
Each time you key off or cycle the ignition, any changes made to the table in RAM will be lost and refreshed with table data from the flash chip.
Command VCM to use the data in RAM for the current table.
Command the VCM to use the data on flash for the current table.
This will not remove your changes from RAM.
They will remain until you cycle the ignition of the vehicle.
If you hit the play icon again, you will simply pick up where you left off.
Your changes will not have been lost.
Command VCM to use the data in RAM for all tables.
Command the VCM to use the data on flash for all current tables.


Step 4. Understanding the Real Time Tuning Auto Tune

Auto tune is currently disabled and will be available in a future release of VCM Suite.


Step 5. Activating a table in RAM

When you are ready to start tuning a table in real time, click the green play button.
This will tell the VCM to start using the table in RAM and not the one on flash.
If the software has not yet pulled the table from the vehicles RAM, it will do it now.



If you have built a table in RAM that is not desirable and do not wish the vehicle to use it anymore, simply click the green stop icon.
This will tell the vehicle to use the table that is located on flash and not in RAM.


Step 6. Using the Right Click Menu

The same right click menu exists for this table editor as does in VCM Editors table editor.
You can use the same functionality.
For example, you can take data from your histogram and paste it directly into your real time tuning window.


Step 7. Finalizing the Changes

After you have built a table that you feel is worthy of permanent stay, simply right click the table and click copy.
Click disconnect on VCM Scanner.
Then, in VCM Editor simply right click the table button that you are modifying and click paste.
Now you can perform a calibration only write as you would normally to make the changes permanent.

You do not have to disable the RTT™ mode in VCM Editor either.
You can leave it to your favorite mode and real time tune your vehicle any time you like.
